I've loved the Wall Street Journal since I was a kid. Coverage of business is the best (of course). Smart, solid, personal financial advice, market news and insights you won't get anywhere else (heck they make and break the market news at least every other day), clear, refreshing, sophisticated writing. The best "behind the scenes" coverage of market deals and scandals around bar none. But WSJ goes far beyond that. It gives you politics, the arts, culture (a weekly wine tasting column is one of my favorites), the most "against the crowd" editorials, and the best opinion page around. The human interest stories are excellent. The paper edition is of course great but expensive (around $250 a year) and I haven't been able to justify it since I usually don't have time to read more than 2 papers a week. BUT the online version is only $80 a year. I decided to take the plunge a few weeks ago and love it. Not only do you get the FULL version (they recently changed the site so now on the "in today's paper" page you get an index of the entire paper and access to every single article in the paper edition - much improved navigation from before where the articles were spread around and hard to match up to the paper edition), you get access to the past 30 days of papers for free (earlier articles available for a charge). PLUS you get BARRON's Online as a free bonus, giving you full text editions of Barron's paper publication, another EXCELLENT cutting edge business publication focusing on market trading and investing. Barron's gives you all past full editions for FREE (there's some sort of limit but you can go back for several years I believe). Very happy with my subscription. I don't have room to go on about all the WSJ online extras (dedicated sites for careers, startup businesses, etc.[some of which are available without a subscription], interactive content forums, etc.). PLUS my favorite aspect of the online version is that every time an article references a past article it links to the full text for free (even if years earlier). Try doing that in the paper edition!! And finally if you can figure out how to get it on your PDA (like I have) you are GOLDEN.
